Child Sexual Abuse is sadly a common occurrence in Pakistan which tries to cover itself under the pretense of religion or education. It is a shocking statistic that sexual paedophilia and physical child abuse is rampant in the Pakistani culture.
Pakistani child abuse in 2018 was extremely alarming. Compared to 2017. In just one year child sexual abuse cases increased from 9 cases per day to 12 cases per day, and it is still growing at alarming rates. According to the Cruel Numbers Report compiled by Sahil, 2,232 cases were reported from the four provinces as well as Islamabad, Azad Jammu, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. According to this data, 56% of these victims were girls and 44% were boys.
It carries with it such shame and is an “invisible problem” that very little is reported because of the acceptance of some cultural entities and religion, as well as the sense of lack of justice. These statistics are greater with a known 87% mostly boys. Why boys? Because they can be used over and over again and they are seen as pleasure for men whereas girls are only for breeding children. Some are trained as youthful terrorists
Some tribes encourage this behavior, where boys who are called Bachas give themselves to men with the blessings of some Tribal Leaders. It is known that some men of potential influence refuse to work in certain positions unless they have a “Bacha” to entertain them. To these boys, this “form of rape” becomes like their own step up to manhood.
The Bacha Bazi is a practice were teen boys are dressed as women to dance before powerful and some influential men, then picked out like buying groceries and taken home for the night were they are raped. Yet to these boys, it is a sign of manhood, title, position, financial gain and protection, until their “suiter” finds another younger more handsome boy. This has been outlawed by some cultures but rarely enforced. After the boys becomes more like a man and begin to grow a beard, he is quickly disposed of for a younger virgin. Sadly, many of these “victims” become perpetrators themselves, looking for younger men to “convert” and “offer” prestige by developing their own harem of stature and money and excitement for themselves.
